Confounded by Change or Creating Change – Which Will Be True of You?

AzaleaIn New England, we have an expression – “If you don’t like the weather, wait a minute.”

It seems like spring came in fast, and with spring, all the delightful changes. First the forsythia came and went, now the bright azaleas are out (that’s my fav shrub in my front yard, right). We are used to such seasonal changes; we typically look forward to them.

Meanwhile, there have been many changes in the internet marketing environment, including…

  • The departure of Eric Walker and DiDi Alcheva from the staff at Marketing Merge, or The Renegade Professional. Meanwhile, owner Mike Klingler has announced new leadership in his organization and hints that some major changes will take place in the Renegade Professional site over the summer.
  • Mike Dillard launched his new internet marketing magazine, What Works Now, amidst enthusiastic support from many industry leaders.
  • Ferny Ceballos, with a host of other industry leaders, announced a major conference in Las Vegas in July.
  • Katie Freiling launched The Unified Tribe site, catching support and endorsements from many leading gurus.

Changes abound.  And for some, changes confound.

Are You Confounded?

I got a letter from an internet marketing “fellow traveler” asking what I thought about some of these things. There was a hint of anxiety in his letter.

Here’s how I look at these things. Change is certain.

Mike Dillard, Ann Sieg, Frank Kern, Mike Klingler and many others have pioneered, each with their own unique selling propositions (USP) and thousands of followers have sought to emulate them. So, each of these leaders are increasingly surrounded by look-a-likes. What was once unique, is no longer so unique. They must grow and find new and bold offerings or they will fall by the wayside of the stampede.

Creating something new –a change– is what entrepreneurialism is all about. That’s why change is certain… and necessary.

Or Are You a Founder?

And by the way, the mistake that many make in emulating the leaders is that they fail to find their own USP, their own niche, in which to excel. Blunt truth: doing exactly what others have done in the same niche with the same USP is not a formula for success. Yes, there is much to be learned from these leaders, but your goal is to become a leader … or you have nothing. You must be a founder of something special (unique) in your own niche.

So don’t feel confounded by changes. Create changes by being a founder.

How do you do that?  Start with a free ebook by Cindy Schulson called Ten Steps to Finding and Attracting Your Ideal Niche. Ask for it on her website. She is a terrific resource person in this area. And you must not think you can sneak past this challenge.

Another blunt truth: If you think your special niche is “baby boomers who are network marketers” – you better think again.  Or you will be a look-a-like wondering why you are going nowhere. Get Cindy’s book. If you like it, send her a note and thank her.

Already Got a Unique Niche?

If you already have your niche and you need to get focus on how to get to the top of that niche, you may be in need of Mike Klingler’s upcoming webinar that focuses on all the ingredients of creating a marketing funnel for your niche. It’s the big picture, and the start of a series. Follow the links in the recent article in the Renegade Pro News. You can register for the May 12 webinar.  It’s free also.

Then what?

  1. Identify your unique niche. Resource: Schulson’s book.
  2. Establish a marketing funnel for your niche. Resource: Klingler’s webinar.
  3. Establish a tribe that will help you get the word out. Resource: read on…

Establish a Tribe; Collaborate

That brings me to the area I have been working on – Collaboration. As you know, I am writing an ebook on the subject. My progress has been slowed by some challenges (medical in nature for both Ruth and myself) and some opportunities (I’m in Singapore right now teaching a course).

But I have to say – of all the things I have found online regarding home business collaboration and partnering, the various possibilities available from The Unified Tribe (just launched today) is outstanding. If you have established your niche and part or all of your marketing funnel, I suggest you check out The Unified Tribe. It is not free, but it is worth looking into.

I will definitely be writing more about building a tribe (collaborating) as I utilize more of what Katie Freiling has created there.

  • Richard:

This is a wonderful post. Change is often scary for many people. But in fact, change is really the only constant that we have. Your summation of the changes in a small segment of the industry is right on target, as is your directive to find your own niche and the become the founder of your own empire.

I love it! Enjoy Singapore. Your flowering pictures are joyful to look at, from one who is still seeing snow on the mountains and brown in the yard!

Thanks Deborah! I enjoy your “SUCCESS TV” videos, such as your recent advice on Target Audience.

  • Change is definitely positive. A lot of us got what we needed from Marketing Merge and recognize that it is time to get out there and make it happen for ourselves now. That is what I am doing, as I collaborate with Deborah Tutnauer, Julia Rymut, Samantha Gardner on Good Day Mompreneur, move forward with my plans for the Autismpreneur course, work with Eric Walker on a very special project of our own, and continue to build out those activities that were already creating success for me in my business.

At the same time, there are people out there who need our help, so I am positioning myself to be able to do just that and loving every minute of it.

  • Hi Richard Change is getting out of your comfort zone and moving on. The story of the bear went over the mountain and what did he see, another mountain, and what did he see, another mountain … this is the change we need to keep going thru life.
