My Big NICHE Mistake

NicheMistakePic“Find your niche!”

Yes, I heard the admonitions. But I honestly believed I had found my niche!  I just did not fully appreciate what it all meant.

And so I plowed ahead “building my business.”

Which is like building a skyscraper on a 4 foot foundation on a sandbar.

And now I see so many others repeating my mistakes.

So I have made a video about my “big niche mistake.” Kind of like displaying my foolishness for your sake. I hope it helps!

  • What a brilliant video Richard! You share a mistake that so many marketers make when getting started online.

Your niche is the foundation for your business. Everything you create — all of your products and services, your marketing, your strategic alliances — all flow from understanding your niche.

That means understanding what solution you offer, who you provide it for, and the outcome or results they get from working with you.

Helping solo entrepreneurs gain that strategic focus and perspective is at the heart of my niche. It’s my mission. And it feels great to know that it has helped so many people stop spinning their wheels and start moving forward with focus and confidence.

Thanks for sharing your story Richard. Your honesty and insights are going to help a lot of people.

    warm wishes,
    Cindy

  • Great video Richard.

Excellent advice on developing a niche.

I tell people that sometimes your niche is staring back at you in the mirror.

What problem did they have that brought then online looking for a solution.

Find the solution and start marketing to people just like yourself.

    Thanks, I enjoyed the video.

    Richard,

Your visual for matching target groups and solutions makes so much sense. Before creating a funnel one should create a target group/solution chart.

    Thanks,

  • Richard…Thanks so much for sharing your “mistakes” with everyone. The most successful people make the MOST mistakes and learn from them. Thank you for sharing your mistakes to give others shortcuts to their own success.

Finding a specific niche is key. You must be passionate about that niche when it comes to blogging. I find many people brand their company or network marketing group vs. branding themselves. I also find that the people that have a highly targeted niche have an advantage…

As Gary Vaynerchuk would say…if you are passionate about stickers, there are others out there that would love to hear about your expertise on stickers…

  • Hi Richard, You WoW’d me with this video! I have spent lots of time and money on this subject and you created a wonderful video that gets to the point with no Hype, and no distractions.
This is excellent my friend. You are a true leader in the industry and deserve to be recognized.
I am honored to be your friend.

  • Hi Richard,

You’re not alone, my friend. I made similar mistakes. Seems like we’re shaping up though, and will be all the better for it sooner than later.

Great video as always. Your ability to provide visuals makes it so much easier to follow along. This post would have been difficult to follow if it were in words.

I think you should create a mini-program which could be your oversight and guidance as a coach along with specific affiliate products along the way. In fact, I should do it too.

    Best to you,

    Eric

  • Richard,
I am so impressed with your video. Very cool!

  • Hello Richard,
What a helpful video. You really talked us through the need for and the way to determine our niche and how to meet the needs of the people in that niche. You are clear and you make a lot of sense. Fortunately I did have a bit of guidance on that part and yet, as I watched your video, I could see where I need to reevaluate what I’m writing in my blog to be sure that it stays congruent.

I appreciate that you are willing to reveal your own mistakes to help prevent us from making the same ones.

I’m looking forward to your next post.

  • Hi Richard,

This really was a helpful video. Not many people would admit their mistakes in a video. You really went the extra mile to explain the pitfalls that most people go through.

    Keep ‘em coming

    Hey Richard
Your video was a little spooky in that your story seems to be an exact reflection of the path I had taken to date – with the same equally frustrating hurdles! I reached a point where I was looking outside Renegade Professional for solutions, because after following the action guide for several months, I was still getting nowhere and was becoming more frustrated than ever!

And it was all down to being unable to successfully target keywords for my content and identify an appropriate niche just like you demonstrate. No-one was finding my content! I look forward to your next offering!

    Your friend
    Richard

    • Richard

Hey Richard, Thanks for sharing your “spooky” experience. What we both managed to do was skim through the initial material in The Renegade called “The 7 Lessons to Attract Prospects to You” – probably some of the first content created by Mike and found in both the University and Pro sections of the site. I say skim – I remember reading and thinking – let’s get on with it! – I’ve already done this (when I had not)!.

Maybe it could be improved, but it was there.

Maybe it’s just like all learning- there is a time when you are ready. Before that, it is just background noise.

Keep in touch – I’d like to see what you are creating.
      Richard

  • Hey, waaait a minute.

Aren’t you that Swimming With The Sharks guy? You sure sound like him but as I recall, he charged me for the same kind of great knowledge that you are giving away here.

So, maybe you really ARE Richard Goutal…

    Maybe.

Fanfriggintastic info brother. I am your newest fan.

    Thank you.
